The Fastest and easiest way to get a copy of your credit report these days is online. Each of the 3 national credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, have websites from which you can order your report. In most cases, you have the option to get only that particular bureau's report or a combined 3-in-1 report. As a general rule you'll need and want your reports from all 3 bureaus. So, you can either order your 3-in-1 reports from one of the bureaus or you can visit one of the many other websites that offer credit reports online. Either way, you get your reports instantly.

Of course, you can still call or write to order your reports. Contact information for the 3 bureaus is provided above. If you write for your reports, you'll need to include some, if not all, of the following information and documentation: Full Name, Middle Initial, Last Name and Generation (i.e., Senior, Junior, III etc.) if applicable, Social Security Number, Date of Birth, Addresses for the last 2 years, a Copy of a Government Issued Identification Card (i.e., Driver's License, Passport, Military ID, etc.) and a Copy of a Utility Bill or some such proof of residence. Requirements and fees vary depending on the bureau and the state in which you reside. Be sure to call for specific instructions and requirements.
Credit Reports

Mortgage Lenders rely heavily on a prospective borrower's credit history to determine their risk. Credit scores can affect everything from the term and interest rate of a loan to whether a lender will fund the loan at all. Credit scores can range from the 400's up to 850. The average credit score is in the 670's to 690's range. Consumers can, and should, check their credit at least once a year. You may request one credit report annually from each of the 3 credit bureaus, or one combined credit report, at no charge each year. Or, if you've been declined employment, insurance, or credit within the previous 60 days, you may order a copy of your credit report free of charge, even if you've already received your free annual credit report. You'll need to provide copies of any declination letters. Check with the bureaus for specific requirements and instructions.
